TPS61040 Not Boosting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61040, TPS54060

Dear All,

I have 6V , 0.2A source which i have given to TPS61040 to boost it up to 12V.

But it is not functioning. I have connected its Enable pin to Vin but it is not switching (Giving pulses on SW pin) .

Is any thing i have to check or any other cosideration is there for fine working of this IC ?

Thank You.

  • Verify that the input voltage reaches the TPS61040 Vcc pin.  This makes sure there is not a bad solder joint. You should check all solder joints.  Verify that the FB pin is less than 1.233V.  If the FB pin is greater than 1.233V, the IC does not switch.  What is the input source?  The TPS61040 requires 400mA of peak current every switching cycle.  Is your circuit the EVM or a hand built board or a machine built production board?  Can you post the schematic?  Can you post scope pictures of Vcc, SW, and FB during operation?

  • Dear Sir,

Input source i have used is normal power supply & i have taken schematic from its application notes Fig. 20

3.3V to 12V/35mA converter which i have made on general purpose board. I am going to use this boost converter as supply for MOSFET driver. In application i am going to use TPS54060 as an supply voltage for TPS61040.

    Thank You

  • Look at the Vin input to the IC and make sure it is not dropping out and falling.  The TPS61040 will ramp up the inductor current to 400 mA each and every switching cycle.  A 200 mA input power supply cannot supply 400 mA and may go into current limit, which would cause Vin to fall.

Please post your board layout also.  It is critical to follow the recommendations on page 13 of the datasheet.
