LM5060: Auto retry/reset after fault latching

Part Number: LM5060

I'm considering the LM5060 for use in an automotive device I'm designing. I want to use to it monitor the battery supply voltage and disconnect power from the load circuit when the supply voltage is either above a threshold voltage of approximately 26V, or below a threshold voltage of approximately 7.5V. My understanding is that if there is an undervoltage <7.5V, the MOSFET is switched off and latched and EN, Vin, or UVLO needs to be pulled low then high to turn the power supply on again. If there is an overvoltage event the device turns off but does not latch, so that's fine.

How can I get the device to automatically restart and allow power through to the load when the supply voltage rises above the UVLO threshold (7.5V) again? An example when this happens is when starting the engine and the battery voltage drops, I do not want to have to manually reset it each time if it latches off.

Thanks in advance.

  • Chris,

OVP and UVLO are adjustable to the levels you wish via the resistor divider shown on the DS. Neither latches, only disables the gate with normal 24uA gate drive after Vin returns back into the designed range, into either the Crss of the FET for a gradual turn on or into a gate cap dv/dt control for an even more soft FET turn on. In order to turn back on, Vin must be > POR (5.1v) and Enable = high, along with the UVLO/OVP conditions met. Hysteresis = 180mv for UVLO, = 240mv for OVP. See the ES table and also the pin description table on pg 3 of the DS.
