TPS7A7200: VIN ≥ VOUT(TARGET) + 0.3 V Required?

Part Number: TPS7A7200

Hi team,

The datasheet lists the max Vdo as 180mV when Vout is less than 3.3V. However, peppered throughout the datasheet is this little footnote:

VIN ≥ VOUT(TARGET) + 0.3 V

Is this a requirement? aAt 2A, this 120mV difference in your needed Vin is the difference between an extra 240mW of power dissipation, so just trying to figure out what my allowed minimum Vin needs to be for a 1.35 Vout.

Thanks!

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

The references to Vout(target) + 0.3V you mention refer to test conditions for a specific Electrical Characteristics test or a particular Typical Characteristics curve. In order for the LDO to regulate the output, the headroom (Vin - Vout) required must be greater than dropout.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
