UCC27211A: Usage of UCC27211 with TDC1000

Part Number: UCC27211A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC1000, , LMG5200EVM-02

Dear guys,

I  would like to use the TDC100 Ultrasonic Analog-Front-End  to control the input of the high speed  Mosfet driver UCC27211A for  a NDT application, where I have to drive a big piezoelectric transducer.   The Tx signal provided from the TDC1000 is just a single PWM polarity signal, while the high speed UCC27211A Mosfet driver has two independent HI and LI inputs  that have to be driven with two PWM signals of opposite polarity. I am little confused looking at the datasheet of UCC27211A about the TMon and TMOFF time realized to avoid the simultaneous conduction of the  two external N-channel power Mosfet driven from the Mosfet driver.  Can I just do a logic inversion of the Tx signal provided from the TDC1000 to drive the Li input of the UCC27211A? Is the synchronization of signals, to avoid the simultaneous conduction of the  two external N-channel power, intrinsically done by the Mosfet driver? Many thanks for trying to help me.

Best regards

Luca

  • Hello Luca,

  • Thanks for inquiring about UCC27211A. To allow for maximum flexibility, this device does not have a shoot-through prevention feature. The dead time necessary to avoid a shoot-through condition will vary based on SW node slew rate and VIN bus voltage, so it is best to optimize this parameter on a case-by-case basis.

In order to run from a single PWM input, a logic circuit must be added to the design to generate the inverted signal for the second input, set the dead time, and prevent output overlap. A sample dead-time generation circuit is shown in the user's guide for the LMG5200EVM-02 evaluation module. Although this is the EVM for a different device, the same principles apply.
