BQ76930: Is it better or worse than bq76PL536A for my use?

Part Number: BQ76930
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350, BQ76PL536A, , BQ76920, BQ76940

I want to implement a battery management and protection circuit for a lipo controlled robot. I am thinking of using bq76930 and bq78350 together. I also came across bq76PL536A. Now bq76930's datasheet says it has integrated FETs for cell balancing. Does this mean it has passive cell balancing already implemented and I don't have to connect any external circuit for the cell balancing to work? Because bq76PL536A's datasheet says it has cell balancing control and I am assuming it needs some external FET circuit for the balancing to actually work. Am I correct?

  • The bq76920 has cell balancing current is upto 50m max. ( needs no external circuits)

The bq76930 and bq76940 max balance current is 5mA. Above which, the need external circuits( p channel and n-channel FETs can be used (refer to application report SLUA749).

On the bq76920, passive cell balancing algorithm needs to be designed by the user and to be provided by the host to AFE.

The integrated BALANCE FET resistance is given in the d/s as RdsFET ~ 5ohm ( NORM)
