LP5907-Q1: Short circuit current limit of LP5907-Q1

Part Number: LP5907-Q1

Dear, All

Customers are considering LP 5907-Q1.
They have questions about the operation of "Short-current Protection".
In the data sheet of the device, the value of "Short circuit current limit" is written as Min 250mA / Typ 500mA.
Please tell me about the operation when the output current exceeds this value.
A. If the output current exceeds the prescribed current value, will it keep flowing the specified current value almost?
Or will it drop or stop the output current value?
When droping the output current, please let me know its current value.
B. Please tell me the condition of protection state release when the device is in protected state.
C. For the operation values of 'A.' and 'B.', I want the approximate values when Ta is 105 °C / 25°C / -40°C.

Thanks, Masami M.

  • A) Short circuit current limit is, as the name suggests, a ~limit~. Output current may increase up to the limit, but not beyond. Current will keep flowing at the Short Circuit Limit rate until either 1) the low impedance is removed from the output, or 2) Thermal Shutdown is activated. The peak (max) current limit might be around 800mA, but is totally dependent on Vin-Vout, and temperature.

    B) ?? Not sure what the question is here. But ... when the low impedance is removed from the output normal operation is automatically resumed.

    C) ?? Not sure what 'operational values' that you are referencing. The 'short circuit current limit' is outside the ensured operating range, so there are no 'operational values' that are ensured.
  • Hi, Donald-san,

    Thank you for answering.
The question of b), c) is when the answer of a) is as follows.
Therefore, the question point was solved.

    - Fold-back current limiting characteristic
    - Shutdown operation by current limit

    Thanks, Masami M.
