TPS65910: VDD2 SMPS pulse skip operation at light load

Part Number: TPS65910

Hi,

My customer is using TPS65910A3A and AM3352BZCZD80.
TPS65910A3A is set BOOT1=High and BOOT0=Low by external resistor.

I think that VDD2 SMPS can enter the pulse skip mode at light load.
At that time, DCDCCTRL_REG is the default value, not to be set by customer.
Is this my idea correct?

If this is correct, How much current value does TPS65910A3A enter the pulse skip mode from?

Best regards,
Shimizu

  • Shimizu-san,

Thanks for the post! I have assigned the post to the expert on this device. We will get back to you soon with an answer. Thanks again for the post!

  • Shimizu-san,

Hi, your understanding of VDD2 pulse skipping configuration is correct. The pulse skipping mode is enabled by default.

It is difficult to examine exactly what current value the device enters pulse skipping mode. The point the devices switches from PWM to PSM is dependent on the topology of the converter as well as the inductor and output voltage selections.

The device will then leave pulse switching mode once it can no longer maintain the selected output voltage.

Let me know if there you have any further questions.

    Thanks,
    Nastasha
