UCC39002: Is UCC39002 Compatible with UCC28220 for PWM generation for MOSFETs based on load sharing?

Part Number: UCC39002
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28220

Hi All,

Two DC-DC Converters( Analog Based) are used in parallel to Meet load of 2.5kW, 48V/28V output voltage, & I am intending to use UCC39002 Load share IC.

1. Is UCC39002 Compatible to work with  UCC28220 Interleaved Forward Converter IC?

2. I intend to control the error output of UCC39002 by mapping with UCC28220 so that PWM is regulated according to shared load between two separate DC-DC Converters.

If yes, then how can it be done. Because UCC28220 already has Current Sense Pins for Current Feedback and CTRL Pin for Voltage Feedback & PWM is generated accroding to loop correction in it.

Thanks & Regards

Sai Charan

  • Hi Sai,

The UCC39002 will work with the UCC28220. There is an application section in the UCC39002 datasheet which shows how to configure the device so that each load share controller adjusts the output voltage of the each of the parallel power modules to ensure that the load current is shared equally between the modules.

The UCC39002 is designed to operate on the secondary side of the power supply and use the opto-based feedback circuit which crosses the isolation barrier to adjust the primary side controller to ensure current balance. It is not possible to configure the UCC39002 to drive the pins of the UCC28220 directly.

  • Hi,
Thanks Peter. Going by your suggestion & reading some more articles in this forum regarding UCC39002 , I infer that we need similar isolated feedback like mentioned in schematic by name 0820.sch.
  • Hi,

Can you send me the link to the 0820.sch schematic that you are referring to?

    Thanks

    Peter
