BQ78PL114 communication interface

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78PL114, BQ76PL536, BQWIZARD

I would like to know if the communication interface for the BQ78PL114 battery fuel gauge could be modified from an SMBus to a CAN Bus? Also could you please suggest the power electronics required along with this fuel gauge in order to manage a 72V battery pack with 6 to 8 cylindrical li-ion cells in series and 5 rows are connected in parallel.

  • The comms interface is SMBus only.

The bq78PL114 & bq76PL102s can only be stacked to make a battery managment solution for up to 12 cells (in series) .  A 16 cell solution will be coming out soon.

Please refer to bq76PL536 as an alternate solution for higher cell counts.

  • Hi,Jim
I want to know the type of DSP  which used to connect to the bq78PL114EVM . And how can I

conncet them ,should I also use the bqwizard software to observe data from the EVM? And

do I need drivers for the DSP to connect to the EVM? Besides,I want to control the EVM

by  a  DSP,could you give some advice about this ?
