TPS55340: TPS55340 similarity to TPS61175

Part Number: TPS55340
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61175

We currently use the TPS61175 IC in a number of designs and have gathered a significant amount of confidence in its performance through qualification data and product heritage. We have a requirement for a higher output current than the TPS61175 can provide and are considering the TPS55340 which is pin compatible and has very similar specs.

Can anyone advise on how similar these two chips are internally and what heritage/confidence we might be able to take by similarity from one to the other?

e.g. Is it as simple as a different FET internally in the TPS55340 to achieve the higher current rating?

Thanks

  • Hello

TPS55340's core is TPS61175. Most of functionality is similar. Here is the summary of differences.

Higher max operating input voltage:   38V vs. 18V
    Lower RDSon :  70mW vs 130mW
    Smaller footprint:  QFN16(3x3mm) vs. HTSSOP14 (5.1x6.4mm)
Change Freq. range from 200kHz-2.2MHz to 100kHz to 1.2MHz

    Thanks

  • Hi Eric, thanks for the quick reply.

My main concern is how the part reacts under exposure to radiation, I would assume that the TPS55340 would broadly have a similar tolerance to TID to the TPS61175 although there is obviously some risk as there will be some different elements.

  • As far as I know, there is no difference between two except what I mentioned.
