WEBENCH® Tools/LM5116: LM5116 design with webench

Part Number: LM5116

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello,

I'm trying to use a the LM5116 to design a 48V to 12V / 20Amps buck converter in webbench Design tool, but i got no result for 20 Amps, however the design maximum current allowed is 20 Amps. Could you send me a design for those specification or tell me how to calculate the components of the stability loop.

  • I see this quite often where Webench cannot find suitable FETs. Perhaps the component selection can be upgraded. I have assigned this thread to the appropriate applications support engineers.
  • Hi AJOUHY Ayoub,

I created this design to refer to the issue and the error comes as FET is not selected due to exceeding temperature. To align with 240W output power and corresponding temperature, we have not yet implemented heatsink algorithm for the FETs for this device. That’s why the design is not getting created for your operating condition. I tried to decrease the Iout and found that I could create a design wherein a FET was getting selected, the condition being Vin 48V, Vout 12V at 13.5A Iout, Ta 30degC.

This is a limitation in our design right now and I will let you know once we add the support for this device.

    Thanks,

    Anupriya
