LM5160: power dissipation of Vcc

Guru 20090 points
Part Number: LM5160

Hello,

Could you please let me know the power dissipation of Vcc?
Is this  calculated by (Vin-Vcc) * Iop?

Also LM5160 Vcc output is 7.5V(typ). However LM5160A external Vcc bias range is 9V to 12V.
Could you please let me know this reason?
If we use external Vcc bias supply,  power dissipation of internal Vcc regulator will be zero?

Best regards,
Ryuji

  • Hi Ryuji,

You are correct on Power dissipation internal LDO .

Further LDO regulated output can range from 6.47V to 8.52V. When the VCC pin of the LM5160A is raised above the regulation voltage (8.52V+ diode drop), the internal regulator is disabled and the power dissipation in the IC is reduced. If the external power supply is used as bias supply , the dissipation on the internal LDO will be close to zero as LDO will be disabled .
