BQ25120: operation without connecting ipreterm/iset/ilim

Part Number: BQ25120

I would like to know if it is possible to use this part without connecting IPRETERM/ISET/ILIM - in other words using the I2C bus to set these values, and leaving the pins not connected. The datasheet says they should be connected to ground to use the I2C, but I'm wondering if this is a hard requirement. Not connecting them will allow me to route traces out of the BGA without using vias, which will help greatly with our design. Thanks!

  • Paul,

You shouldnt have to connect a via for these. I would recommend to GND them.

  • The problem is we also need to connect all the other pins!

We'd like to get the INT and RESET pins out too (in green below), and this would be possible if we did not connect up the ISET/ILIM/IPRETERM, which we don't need anyway as we will program them via the I2C. It's just that the datasheet says these should be grounded if the I2C is used, and I wanted to know if they could be left NC.

    Thanks!
