TPS54302: Use with GSM module

Part Number: TPS54302
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54335A

Dear TI Team,

I am a Microwave engineer, and I am working on a maritime beacon project with a dozen radio systems and I am looking for a BUCK converter to power the following GSM module: UMTS / HSPA Module Series UG95 from Quectel.

I currently selected the reference TPS54302 which corresponds to the following characteristics:

Win: 5V ... 14V

Vout: 3.8V

Imax of the radio module: 2A

Yield: 90%

Ripple during current bursts: 400mV max, as the module shuts down below 3.3V.

The critical point of the selected reference is RθJA Junction-to-ambient thermal resistance 87.1 ° C / W. I fear a deterioration of the component.

Do you think this choice is wise or would you have another reference to advise me?

Best regards,

Régis
