BQ24050: Monitoring nCHG pin with 3.0 V I/O pin

Part Number: BQ24050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62740

We are using the BQ24050 battery charger and TPS62740 voltage regulator to power an nRF51 microcontroller. We want to monitor the nCHG pin with the microcontroller. The datasheet schematic for the BQ24050 has the nCHG pin connected with a pull-up resistor and diode to the V_out pin. The V_out pin can vary in voltage with the Li-Poly battery from 3.3 - 4.1 V.

We want to monitor the nCHG pin with a GPIO pin from our microcontroller which is limited to 3 V on the input. Can we connect the BQ24050 nCHG pin to our 3 V Vcc rail? Are there any issues with that? Does the pull-up resistor need to be 1.5k or can we increase the resistor value?
