Hi,
My earlier conversations about the bq34Z100-G1 seem to have disappeared.
I have a query about the Design Energy Scale setting in the bq34Z100-G1:
Our 7S 11P Li-ion battery has a design charge capacity of about 35Ah and an energy capacity of about 1,000,000 mWh (1kWh). For the designed discharge current capability I have put a factor of 2 in the current calibration, i.e. a real discharge current of 60A is read as 30A by the fuel gauge. With this factor, the energy in the battery seen by the fuel gauge is therefore 500,000 mWh. This is of course too high for the various energy parameters that are limited to 32767, so I need to put in a further factor, and I understand this is what the Design Energy Scale is for.
The question is what are the permissible numbers that Design Energy Scale can be set to? Section 7.3.6.5 in the data sheet (SLUSBZ5B) says "between 1 and 10 only", and Table 11 shows a range of 0 to 255. Ideally we would like a factor of 16 or 20.
I am reluctant to alter the current sense calibration from a factor 2 to 4 (which would bring the Design Energy Scale within the range 1 to 10) because we would lose resolution on the amp hour capacity calculations.
I should be grateful for your comments, in particular what are the permissible values for Design Energy Scale?
Many thanks in advance,
Alan Ogburn
