BQ76PL536A: Enter sleep state upon cell connection

Part Number: BQ76PL536A

Hi,

When you connect the BQ75PL563A devices to the cells, the BQ draws about 5[mA]. Since the controlling CPU is not on the same PCB, the devices can not be set into sleep mode straight away by the CPU.

Why is this current that high after power up? Can anything be done to reduce this current, or set the devices in sleep by default after power up?

Best regards,

Marald

  • Hi Marald,

Yes, you will see higher current when you connect the cell for 1st time.
You have to clear the ALERT and FAULT registers.
For example, you will have POR Fault, AR alerts when you connect the cell.
ALERT and FAULT will cause extra current.

You may have to invert the CS_H pin. CS_H is active low and it's possible that your system is pulling down CS_H pin.
Check that. If it's low then it will draw extra currents.
    See the application note.
