You can follow section 5 of the software design reference: www.ti.com/.../slva617a.pdf

To help clarify a little, try this:
1) Set GPIO as input
2) Set GPIO pullup or pull down depending on your system
3)configure as fault as described in the software design reference

Logic levels are VIO-0.7 for High voltage, and 0.7 for low voltage
