Hi,

My battery pack is like 16 li cells in series and 13 li cells in parallel.

I am using bq76pl455evm for passive cell balancing.

Question: Will my cells in parallel be also balanced ?

thanks

  • Ritul,

    Essentially, the answer is yes.

Think of connecting cells in parallel like connecting to large capacitors together. As a gross over-simplification, the charge will distribute as evenly as it can. On initial connection, this can result in huge currents if the cells have significant mismatch, as the only thing limiting the current will be contact resistance and internal impedance of the cell.

So you can think of the parallel cells as one unit for balancing.
