TPS63060: Start condition with lower current limit of the supply unit

Part Number: TPS63060

Working with the TPS63060 to power a laser driver with a green LD (7V / 35-45mA)

The TPS63060 needs 90mA by 5V supply voltage. Setting the current limit to 200mA some of the devices behave like a shortcut: voltage drop to 2.3V by 200mA.

Some devices work normal with a higher current limit, but 5 devices are still not working.

My Questions:

Can I destroy the device by setting the current limit to low?

How can I calculate the needed current limit?

  • The switch current limit of TPS63060 is more than 2A. So it is capable to pull currents up to this level at the input. This may happen during startup to charge the output capacitor to the operating voltage.
To debug this it would be very helpful to see a oscilloscope plot of input and output voltage and inductor current.
