TLV704: TLV70450 DFMEA Shorts & Opens

Part Number: TLV704

I have a customer using the TLV70450 LDO.  Vin = 12V, Vout = 5V @ 50mA.  12V feeds two 1uF, 25V ceramic caps through a 100 ohm resistor.  Across the inputs is a 22V TVS.  The output has a 4.7uF 25V ceramic.

They would like to you hear your take on  the following DFMEA questions:

1.  What happens when the TLV70450 GND (Pin 1) fails open?

2.  What happens when the INput and OUTput pins are shorted (Pin 2 & Pin 3)?

Please let me know.

Thanks, John Garrett, TI-AFA

  • Hi John,

If the GND pin fails the circuit will no longer regulate properly as there is no longer a reference. The output could end up at any voltage between GND and VIN.

The output of this device is only rated to 5V. If you short IN to OUT the device will have an EOS event and there will likely be a low impedance path from the output to GND.

    Best Regards,
