BQ76PL455EVM: bq76pl455evm

Part Number: BQ76PL455EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76PL455A, , BQ34Z100-G1

Hi,

I saw a demo video of BQ76PL455EVM. It was stated that we can calculate accurate SOC and SOH of the battery stack using BQ76PL455A.

How can I calculate SOC and SOH using BQ76PL455EVM?

Please help me out.

Thanks

Ritul Shah

  • Ritul,

Could you share the video please? I would like to make sure we  are on the same page.

The bq76PL455A is a monitor and secondary protector...there is no functionality to calculate SOC or SOH.

To calculate SOC/SOH, you will need a battery gauge, such as  the bq34Z100-G1 or your own algorithm with an MCU.

  • Hi David,

Please find the below link. check out the Summary part: It states, BQ76PL455 helps in calculating SOC and SOH.

  • Ritul,

Thank you for sharing, I see now.

Technically, yes, the pl455 can be used to assist in calculating  these parameters. Many algorithms  use voltage measurements under various loads to calculate battery impedance, an indicator of SOH.. If you plan on using the bq76PL455A to help in calculating  SOC or SOH, then you will have to develop your own algorithm, and implement it in something like an MCU. This is  not  a trivial task, but it would be doable...
