TPS53014: inductance value

Part Number: TPS53014

Hi,

We got a question from customer about TPS53014.
Could you help us?

[Question]
They consider to use TPS53014 under the following condition. How much is the recommended inductance range?

 Vin=18.5V
 Vout=5V
 Iout=10A

They want to use 1uH. Can they use it?

Best Regards,

  • Tateo-san,

    I would recommend 1.5uH. There are some trade offs with the 1uH. One is high ripple current ratio to output current. If 1uH is used ripple current ratio is 0.72. Would recommend to stay 0.5 or less if possible. The other is the output current at which the circuit goes into DCM mode.With 1uH it would go into DCM mode at 3.5A compared to 2A with 1.5uH.

    If there is a particular reason 1uH is desired then its okay to try it and make sure enough output capacitance is used to have a acceptable ripple voltage and that the transient response is acceptable.

    Regards,

    Mathew
