BQ24296M: Vref for I2C configuration

Part Number: BQ24296M

I'm using BQ24296M to charge a single cell li-ion battery.  Question I had from the datasheet it was not too clear was that the I2C lines (SDA, SCL, INT) had 10k resistor pull-up to a Vref.  The datasheet does not define what that Vref is.  I saw there was some mentioning regarding 1.8V on the signals' min and max input/output voltages.

Does the Vref have to be 1.8V or can it be greater, i.e. same voltage that powers the BQ24296M?

  • Hey Jackson,

You are correct. Vref is any pull-up voltage rail for the I2C communication. Just be careful not to exceed the ABS MAX rating of the SDA and SCL pins, or any other pin for that matter.

Typically, customers will tie this pin with a pull-up to SYS.
