UCC27531-Q1: Source Peak Drive Currents

Part Number: UCC27531-Q1

Hello Team,

The following specification is in the data sheet.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 Features
"High 2.5-A Source and 5-A Sink Peak Drive Currents at 18-V VDD"

7.5 Electrical Characteristics
  ROH(OUTH, pullup resistance) : 20Ω(max)
 ROL(OUTL, pulldown resistance) : 1.25Ω(max)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

When High flows 2.5A, I think that the power consumption will be as follows.
Will not the internal circuit be destroyed?

P=20 * 2.5 * 2.5 = 125W

Best regards,
Kato

  • Hi Kato,

If you look at the operating conditions, you would see that those impedances are specified at steady state, currents of 10mA and 100mA.
Those impedances are not for peak current rating, which is only for few nano secnds.
For power loss of driver you need to use Qg x Fsw not I x I x R.

    Regards,
    Ritesh
