LM5046: Changing Frequency During Operation

Part Number: LM5046

Is it possible to change the frequency during operation, either by speeding up or slowing down the synced clock or by using a FET on the RT pin?  Can this cause adverse behavior with the PWM timing? (i.e. a smaller ramp from a higher frequency may not cross the modulating signal from a previous cycle)

  • Sean,

Thank you for your interest in LM5046. I have contacted the applications engineering team for this device. They should be able to provide feedback within the next day or so.

  • Hi Sean,

I think so but you'd better not change too much as if you have too much difference between two adjacent cycles, then the PSU may not survive. As the LM5046 is fixed frequency controller and not suppose to vary the frequency when operation, it means the PWM timing after frequency is unpredictable, customer should validate and test their design implementation.

    Thanks
