bq24100: input current

Part Number: BQ24100

OK this is my send time around . I am performing FA on our home charger for one of our electronic monitoring devices. we have been getting them back form the field with burnt up boards and the chips are pretty much destroyed. I have discovered that the input pins as well as the output pins are shorted to Pgnd pin 17 and 18 which is tied to are board ground. any way our TE groups has created a tester for the charger. The input current I m measuring is1.4 A is that acceptable for this part I can find nothing in the spec in regards to input current limits. that is question number one what is the maximum input current allowed. Could the FETs get damaged with that input current at 1.4A. I know the output is rated for 2.2A. Have any other customer seen anything similar with this part? I am trying to find a root cause for the failure.

  • Hi Patrick,

Are you answering a question? if not please proved your schismatic and describe the problem and your application in detail.
    Thanks,

  • WE ARE SEEING OUR CHARGER UNITS COMING BACK FROM THE FIELD WITH THE BQ24100 BURNT UP AND WELL AS THE PCBs. I HAVE HAD BOARDS X-RAYED WITH NO SMOKING GUN FOUND UNDER THE CHIP. I HAVE REMOVED PARTS FROM UNITS THAT HAVE FAILED OUR TEST AFTER BEING RETURNED AND THE INPUTS AND THE OUT PUTS ARE SHORTED TO GND. PINS 3 AND 4 AND PINS 1 AND 20 ARE 1.5 OHMS TO PINS 17 AND 18 PGND PINS. THEY ARE IN TURN TIED TO OUT BOARD GND. I AM TRYING OT FIND A ROOT CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. I BORROWED THE TESTER WE USE ON THE MFG FLOOR AND I AM SEENG 1.4 AMPS AT THE INPUT AND 1.6A + AT THE OUTPUT II KNOW THE OUTPUT WILL HANDLE UP TO 2.2AMPS BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE INPUT CAN HANDLE. CAN THE FETS BE DAMAGED WITH A INCURRENT OF 1.4A AND CAUSE A FAILURE AT SOME LATER TIME? ANY GUIDENCE WILL HELP. WE ARE CONCERNED AS THIS UNIT IS IN OUR HOME CHARGE UNIT FOR ONE OF OUR ELECTRIONIC MONITORING DEVICES.
  • Hello,

Please don't use the capital letter, it's hard to recognize. Also, please confirm what's your issue, and please clear the test condition and test data.
