BQ78350-R1: Is it possible to use the bq78350-R1 with stacked bq78930's for 16s support without a separate uC?

I am designing a BMS that needs to support 8s to 16s configurations. I want to use the bq78350-R1 with 2 stacked bq76930's and the bq76200 high-side FET driver. Is there any way to use qty. 2 bq76930 AFE's stacked with a bq78350-R1? I do not want to have an additional uC.

If this is not possible is there a recommended AFE that can be used with LiFePO4 cells and the bq34z100? My looking around did not find anything but I could have missed something.

Allen,

The bq78350-R1 can only support one bq769x0 device. I will move the posting to the Protector forum, so that they can recommend devices to support a 16S pack.

Hi Allen,

For 16S we can recommend a few things:

- bq76PL455A: a 16S monitor that is stackable, needs an MCU, and needs a way to monitor current for current protection as it can only do OV/UV and OT
- bq77905: a stackable 5S protector up to 20S, doesn't have balancing and is standalone (i.e. doesn't need an MCU)
- bq76930 x2 stacked: Use TIDA-01093 with an MCU

Thanks for the response. I do not have a source for MCU code is there source code that handles the basics including the fuel-gauging and protection that is available for use from TI?

Hi Allen,

Unfortunately we don't have a downloaded code example for you to use. However, the bq76925 does have some code you can download from the product folder, and the TIDA-00449 makes a reference to code in terms of guidelines on how you can build your own.
