BQ34Z100: Can't Update Chemical ID

Part Number: BQ34Z100

We have been using bq34z100 fuel gauge in our design for several months but now I find I cant update the Chemical ID using Battery Management Studio.  When I try I receive the message "Chemistry Programming Failed.  Error Code 3".  I also have seen error code 8 and 10 also.  In the past I was able to update the Chemistry with no problems but I was using a different EV2300 adaptor (which was damaged so I no longer have it).

I am using Battery Management Studio 1.3.54 (I have also tried 1.3.45) and adaptor EV2300(firmware version 3.1c).  I am trying to program Chemical ID = 0269.

I have read on the forum that maybe I need a later version of firmware?  Could this be causing my problem?  If so how can I update the firmware.  I only purchased this EV2300 2 weeks ago but it seems to have the old version of firmware.

Thanks.

    Hi,
You can download this firmware updater to update your ev2300 .
  • Thanks for your suggestions Terry but I continue to experience problems. I have now ordered a new EV2300 from Digikey but when it arrived it still has the old firmware installed (3.1c). So I tried to follow your procedure to update the firmware and when I click "Upload" I get an error 8. I have followed the instructions carefully and rebooted my PC several times but still no luck. I looked in device manager and I can see both the EV2300 device drivers working OK.

What else do you suggest? This problem has become urgent now because I need to configure the bq34z100 for our project which is now delayed by this problem. I really hope that when I can update the firmware successfully that the original problem with programming the Chem ID will be resolved.

    Thanks.
  • I still can't successfully update the firmware on my EV2300. Can anyone help? I have now purchased a second EV2300 and still can't update the firmware. This is becoming very urgent.

    Hi
you can see this previous link about the ev2300 firmware update.
  • First I tried the firmware updater that you suggested in the post above (May 9th). Next I have also tried the firmware updater in this previous link that you posted (May 19th). Both fail and report an error 8. This was on a Win XP computer.

I tried to run the firmware upgrade on a Win 10 machine but it seems there is some problem with the drivers for EV2300 on Win 10 (I see some posts about this on this forum).

I see in the previous post that this user also had the same errors that I am experiencing but there is no solution to these problems in that post.

This problem is now very urgent. Is there a TI representative in Australia who can update my firmware or help?
