BQ24195: Power bank Application

Part Number: BQ24195

Hello,

I'm designing a power bank circuit where I want to manage battery charging and also have two ports - one with a 1mA output current and another with a  ~2.1 mA output current and both 5 V .

I'm planning to use a lithium polymer battery of around 3000-6000 mAh.

The data sheet says it works for a single cell application only, I couldn't find the limitation on the definition of cell.

Is BQ24195L/BQ24195 apt for this use?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Anurag,

Yes, the bq24195/195L will work for a 3000mAh-6000mAh Li-polymer cell. The difference between devices will be the charge current and as a result, the charge time (2.5A charge current on the 195L vs. 4.5A on the 195). Whenever we mention single-cell applications, it can be a 1S1P or 1SxP configuration.

A good rule of thumb for charge time is (Cell Capacity/ constance charge current) * 1.33, so if you end up using the bigger 6000mAh cell, a 2.5A charging will charge the power bank from empty in ~3 hrs. The default safety timer is 8 hours, enough time to charge a 6000mAh cell.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks for the information.
