UA78M: Selecting Devices

Hi,

First time here so I'm not sure if this is the right place.

I have a design that uses a regulator with input from 4.5 to 12.5V, output 3.3V. I need to update the design to use 5V from USB as an input, 3.3V output. I'm looking at the UA78M33CDCYR. Is this the right family?

I don't see an explanation in the datasheet for the letters trailing 33. What do these mean?

Hi Dave,

You found the correct forum.

The family name is UA78M. As this family originally released in 1976 there are certainly more modern families that may fit your needs. The parametric search can help you search through our LDO families to select the best family for your application: http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/power-management/linear-regulators-ldo-products.page

The 33 as you know indicates the 3.3V output.

C and I are different temperature grades as shown in the separate Electrical Characteristics tables. UA78M33C has a temperature range of 0 to 125C while UA78M33I has a temperature range of -40 to 125C.

DCY is the package designation. DCY is for the SOT-223 package.

R is the package quantity. R has a quantity of 2500 units.
