TPS62130A: About behavior of thermal shutdown

Hi Team,

If EN pin is done a toggle(High -> Low -> High) of during a period of the thermal shutdown(TJ remains around 160℃), does TPS62130A output the output voltage?

So, we would like to know whether the thermal shutdown circuit is reset when it was done a toggle.

I guess that the thermal shutdown circuit is reset when it was done a toggle.

Is my understanding incorrect?

  • This is a very strange question. Is there a specific issue behind it or is it purely theoretical?

Once EN goes low, the device turns off and immediately starts to cool down. I don't think you would still be above the thermal shutdown temperature when EN goes high again. But, yes, the circuit is reset.
  • Hi Chris-san,

I’m sorry for the delay in my reply.

Our customer are evaluating TPS62130A at the following conditions so EN is changed fast by the dimming signal even if "TJ=around 160℃".

Therefore, they would like to confirm this behavior.

I will report your comment to our customer. Thank you very much.

  • Ah, you're driving an LED. You might take a look at the new TPS62135/6, which offer higher current and tighter output accuracy.

What dimming frequency are you using? The app note recommends about 100 Hz, which makes a 10 msec period.

Why will Tj get that high? This is well above the 125 C rating of the IC.
  • Hi Chris-san,

    Thank you for the information.

I will promote TPS62135/6 to our customer.

And, they assumed an abnormality operation and asked this question.
