BQ24298: Could power supply connected to VBAT damage VSYS output?

Part Number: BQ24298

Hi,

To test my new design containing BQ24298, and as an electronic load wasn't available, I tried the following steps:

-1) feed VBUS with 5V, BAT inputs floating  -> VSYS outputs 3,7 V, no load connected

- 2) VBUS floating, BAT inputs fed by a power supply (not a battery) with 4,0 V -> VSYS outputs 4,0 V, no load connected

- 3) power supply connected to BAT inputs is then switched off (later I discovered that impedance between power supply terminals drops to 7 ohm when off)

-  4) feed VBUS with 4V, BAT inputs floating -> CI damaged (I am not sure if the damage occurred at this step or at the previous one), VSYS impedance dropped to 1 ohm, no load connected

Could you give a hint  about the cause of the damage?

Best wishes,
