BQ21040: bq21040 battery charger

Part Number: BQ21040

Hello,

We are considering the bq21040 battery charger for our new product. The product will be charged via USB (5V 0.5A). We have a few question about it:

 1. We do not intend to use the temperature monitoring functionality of it, so how would we turn the IC off when the USB is not connected?

2. If the system is in use while charging, should we increase the current set by the ISET pin?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Shai,

If the TS pin is not needed, connect it to VSS using a 10K resistor. When USB power is not applied the IC will be in shutdown mode and you will only see current draw equal to the Quiescent current.

The bq21040 only has one output that connect to both your system and the battery. You will need to correctly calculate the current that is needed if you will be powering only one at a time or both.
