BQ24650EVM-639: Can I operate the EVM at peak current?

Part Number: BQ24650EVM-639
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24650

Hi,

1>Is the BQ24650EVM-639 suitable for operating at the maximum current rating of BQ24650 that is at 10A or 8A max?

2>Does the EVM requires any additional protection circuit if I operate it with a solar panel?

3>Can I input MPPT requirements using the EVM, if my input power source is a solar panel?

4>Can I use this EVM to charge a 4s30p configuration of 18650 cell battery pack?

5>What all protection circuit I require if I plan to charge 4s30p configuration of 18650 cell battery pack with solar panel as input power source?

Thanks and regards!

  • Hi Swaroop,

    1. 10A operation will cause thermal issue so please don't operate it over 8A.

    2. You don't have to put additional protection circuit to input the solar panel.

    3. Could you kindly let us know what is the MPPT requirement? If you mean the MPPT algorithm, BQ24650 has input voltage regulation and you can regulate solar panel voltage at the V_MPPT.

    4. If charging current is higher than its maximum current rating, please use 2 BQ24650 in stackable way to separate the charging current.

    5. What is the 4s30p requirement? What is your concern about the protection? BQ24650 has Vin OVP, BAT OVP, charing current OCP and thermal shutdown fuction.

    Best regards,

    Ann Lien
