bq2014 Discharge errors

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2014, BQ20Z65

Hello,

Is anyone having an issue with the BQ2014's lately? I have a whole bunch that have the NAC counting down with no activity (At a rate faster than the typical self discharge compensation).

If I use the EV2014 software it will come up with -7 to -8 mA in the average current section. (Any one know how the EV2014 even calculates this?) This same current is still there even if i short the SR pin to VSS. And to add to the problem the current is there sometimes and isn't at others.

I have even monitored the NACL register on both the good and bad IC. The good IC has clearly remained stable and the bad IC will count down every minute or so.

Does anyone know how the NAC us updated? is it based on a VCO of the SR pin and a counter?

I have replaced the IC with a new one and the problem goes away. However we have had many of these and I have a high rate of failure on my current product. Any help?

Thanks,

Jason

  • I don't know about the bq2014, but it might be the same problem I had with my bq20z65??

The problem was that a current offset calibration has to bee performed.   The evaluation SW have a button for that which in an early version seemed not to work properly.   After downloading the latest EVSW and doing a calibration the problem was gone, current showed 0 mA and remaining capacity was stable at no load.

  • Hi Jason,

We are seeing the same problem.  Were you able to find a solution?   We find that the readings are low, but the packs still have normal capacity.

    Thanks,
