TPS65100: Looking for a LCD bias for TFT-LCD and backlight

Part Number: TPS65100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61500

Hi,

I am looking for a solution for TFT-LCD bias and its backlight.

The input is 3V~12V, I need +24V(5mA) and -6V(5mA) output for LCD bias, ~21V(200mA) output for backlight as the backlight circuit is 7 LEDs in series.

I prefered to have an integrated part, but was told that TI doen't have a part to fit my application and got advice to use TPS65100 and TPS61500 for backlight. But TPS65100 seems not like the part I want. I need a part, input is 12V, output +24V/5mA and -6V/5mA for LCD bias.

As for the backlight, I found TPS61165  also can fit our needs. Can you please give some advise on these parts selection?

Thanks,

Carrie

  • Hello Carrie,

I do not know about an integrated device that fulfills the 3 to 12V input voltage requirement. If you could limit your input voltage to roughly 5.8V, then TPS65100 could still be a good fit to generate the 24V and -6V, but not for the 21V (200mA).
On the other hand, you could as well use a boost converter to generate 24V, use a regulated LDO to create the 21V for the backlight out of the 24V (here you could possibly use the LED current to regulate to) and use a charge pump with Zener diode regulation to get the -6V out of the boost converter.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte
