BQ24190: auto current limit setting on i2C detection

Part Number: BQ24190

Hello team ,

My customer VVDN has a query in Bq24190

Consider we have selected the input current limit as 2.5A externally while powering on the system, the default input current limit register value is 0.1A.

In such case, if we connect this device with a CDP / DCP type hosts, will BQ24190 limits the input current to 100mA or detects the host type and automatically re-configures the register setting (without I2C master interface) to high current mode (say 3A)?

As our board requires more a Watt to boot-up the Processor for initiating I2C master interface.

  • Hello Shreenidhi,

Upon an adapter plug-in event, the bq24190 will perform a USB D+/D- detection routine and set the input current limit accordingly. If the device detects a DCP or CDP type port, it will set the input current limit automatically to 1.5A. This is done without the host sending I2C commands to the device. Once the detection is done, the host can change the input current limit via I2C if necessary.

The input current used will be the lowest between the I2C register and the external ILIM resistor.
