BQ771612: Lowering OV threshold with external passives

Part Number: BQ771612

Is it possible to lower the OV threshold of this device by changing the required series resistance?  The datasheet says if value is changed the OV threshold changes, but doesn't guide how one would do this.  I suspect a lower series resistance will lower the OV threshold as there is probably voltage divider on each cell input, but what is the value of the resistors in this internal divider?  Ideally I'd like to lower this threshold by 150-200mV.

  • Hi,

Is it possible to lower the OV threshold of the device by changing the required series resistance? Yes, perhaps it is but this is not something that we have tested at an application level nor do we recommend it. These devices are a family and have EEPROM inside that is factory programmed (by TI only) to change the OV threshold the right way. You can go ahead and try anything is test it for your application and if it works that is excellent. My recommendation would be to look at our other protector families we have to see which one best suits your needs. We have the bq7718, bq2945 and the bq2947 that can help.

    Thanks
