BQ25895: BQ25895 PMID pin Output current Settings problem

Part Number: BQ25895
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25890, INA216

Dear TI:

I use BQ25895 in my product to charge the lithium battery(VBUS=5V,3000mAh Li-ion battery,Ichg=2A). When removing the VBUS, use boost mode, I want to set the PMID output current to be 1.65A.

1. Does BQ25895 support Settings? By what method?

2. I know that BQ25890 can set the PMID output current through REG0A, but by setting the BQ25895 REG0A, the PMID output current has changed significantly. Actually, BQ25895 REG0A BIT0~BIT3 is reserved,  Why is that?

Please help me analyze, Thanks very much!

  • Hi Hardy,

The bq25895 boost mode output is on PMID. The bq25890/2 boost output is on VBUS. The FET between PMID and VBUS is the current limiting FET. Since there is no current limiting FET before PMID pin on the bq25895, its output runs at the maximum output current. If you need current limit from the PMID output, you could add a PFET, series current sense resistor and differential current sense amplifier like INA216. The INA216 output would drive the gate of the PFET.
