BQ76PL455A: bq76PL455A / Powering VP from external source

Part Number: BQ76PL455A

Hi,

I know that analog power supply, VP is regulated with NPN transistor by bq76PL455A itself. But now my customer is asking if it can be powered from external source because they have only limited area and so want to remove NPN transistor. In that case, I understand that we need to observe the powering sequence and voltage range.

Best Regards,

Satoshi / Japan Disty

  • Hello Satoshi,

Typically, we do not recommend removing the VP regulator, and only suggest powering VIO externally....

However, it is technically possible, assuming the power sequences and voltage ratings are observed. For a bridge (base) device, this will be easier to implement than for stacked devices. For stacked devices, it will be very challenging as you would need to have an isolated voltage, and make sure that the supply voltages on the stacked devices coincide with the wakeup pulse coming up the daisy chain from the base device.

So, for the bridge IC we don't recommend it, but it is possible....for stacked devices, it is best to keep the NPN regulator present.
