TPS57114-Q1: Free-run and external syncronization

Part Number: TPS57114-Q1

Hi

This device allows free-run(internal clock ) operation and external synchronization operation.

Is that possible to switch the clock frequency and operation mode between startup and steady operation?

For example, at startup it is set by RT pin resistor to 1MHz. Then after startup, it is synchronized by external clock to 1.8MHz.

Is that possible that kind of usage for this device?

(I understand that we need to be considered about inductor and capacitor and other external components if we change the switching frequency.  )

  • Yes, you can change from free running to synchronized clock operation after start up.  You can expect some disturbance on the output voltage if you change the clock frequency by a large amount.  Be careful if you switch back to RT mode during operation.  The switching frequency will drop very low while the PLL re-synchronizes.
