TPS92638-Q1: TPS92638-Q1 fault function at low Vin

Part Number: TPS92638-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92830-Q1

Dear Support team

Can I use TPS92638-Q1  without detecting fault at low voltage(Boost to battery)?

In my understanding, if the Fault pin is set to H, protection can be disabled at low voltage, but short / open protection is also desabled.

◆Spec

・Vin:10~16V

・Vout: 3LED×4string  (Vf 3V)

・Iout:140mA/string

・Short/Open LED protection need.

  • Hi Topmohiro,

For TPS92638, short/open protection still works even Fault is pulled up.
From your description, my understanding is that you want to disable diagnostics at low input voltage. Is my understanding right?
If you want to disable open diagnostics at low input voltage, we have other options of TPS92830 and TPS92610 (samples available now, RTM this year).
A kind reminder, be sure to check thermal performance in your design, since one device is not capable to drive 4 strings at 140mA.
Any questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks.

  • Hello Shirley-san

Thank you for quick response and sorry for lack of information.

It is need to disable diagnostics at low input voltage.

But also need all CH shutdown.(one-fail-all-fail) when open and short LED occur. Can TPS92638-Q1 work as this?

For thermal performance,I'm going to suggest SW regulater for generating input voltage of TPS92638.

  • Hi Tomohiro-san,

TPS92638-Q1 diagnostics features can't be disabled, but TPS92638-Q1 can definitely realize the one-fail-all-fail function when there is LED open or short happens, you only need to keep the fault pin in floating state, details you can refer to the fault table in the TPS92638-Q1 datasheet.

As I mentioned that we have a new device TPS92830-Q1, which has the features to disable LED open diagnostics during low input voltage. Detailed information you can contact our sales for support.
