TPS53319: Parallel DC/DC

I need to produce 3.3V 28A, from a 5V input.

I was looking at using 2x TPS53319 in parallel. The parallel option was preferred because in some variants just the 1 will be required.

The question is, can I use the TPS53319 in parallel without series diodes on the output? At 14A each chip, the diodes will be unacceptably inefficient.

If diodes are absolutely required, I will look at using ideal diodes. However they are too costly to use if unnecessary.

Generally speaking, you cannot parallel two TPS53319. It is technically possible to parallel two converters. Usually they will need to be current mode control types or ICs specifically designed for current sharing such as stackable or interleaved devices. Examples are TPS543c20 or LM25119. A good single choice for your application would be TPS53355.

The TPS53355 does look good. I didn't realise it was pin compatible with TPS53319.
