BQ2000: bq2000 / Max cell count for NiMH

Part Number: BQ2000

Hi,

Is bq2000 able to use up to only 4cell for NiMH? I believe that it can be used more than 4cell because the max charge voltage states 20V. Is my understanding correct? Actually my customer consider to use bq2000 for 6cell NiMH.

Best Regards,

Satoshi / Japan Disty

  • bq2000 can also charge Li-ion battery. So, the output range is higher than 8V.
bq2000regulates constant current until VBAT rises to VMCV. Once VBAT = VMCV, the device identifies the cell as a Li-ion, and changes the termination method from PVD to minimum current.
For 6 cell NiMH, it could be hard for PVD termination because each cell could have the voltage drop at different time. More cells will be more hard for PVD.
I saw you asked another question about bq2000T. So, the dT/dt may be useful for this 6 cell NiMH charger application.
