BQ34Z100: Calibration for bq34z100g1

Part Number: BQ34Z100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO,

Hello-

We are trying to calibrate the fuel gauge bq34z100g1 as shown in the EVM datasheet :http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluu904a/sluu904a.pdf

In the voltage calibration step we get the following error: seeerror message.docx attached.

We have two questions regarding the same:

1. When we enter voltage across bat+ and bat- which is 22,000 mV, we get the error: Calibration cell voltage entered is out of range. This value is in millivolts. Please check value and retry.

Should this be voltage per cell, in our case 22,000/6 as we have a 6s battery?

2. When we enter the per cell voltage,  i.e. 3666 mV it starts calibration but errors out with error:

Calibration-A read of data written failed comparison.

How can we avoid and correct this error?

Thanks, and Best Regards,

  • Hello Timothy,

you need to set VOLSET bit in pack configuration.
My advice is to reload BQ34Z100-G1 firmware before, modify this bit VOLSEL in your .gg file with notepad editor (never with excel), import this new file in your bqstudio, verify that this bit is well in red.
After you press "reset" command in bqstudio (at right bottom) and you can do your calibration.

    Regards.
  • Thank you. Follow up questions:
    1. Under the programming tab we are able to load the latest firmware. However, the execute firmware button gives usan error: Packet Checksum mismatch. The fix for this seems to be EV2300 Firmware update. However, we have updated to the latest firmware and it doesn't solve the issue. What should we do?

    2. We followed the same procedure however we set VOL_SEL from the Battery Management Studio instead of editing and importing the gg file. Is the gg method preferred?

    Thanks and Best Regards,
