UCC28070: Current sensing of UCC28070

Part Number: UCC28070

Hi Sir,

UCC28070 use transformer for current sensing in stead of only a Rsense , what is the purpose ? Or any advantage?

Thank you.

C.T.

  • The advantages of using a transformer for current sensing are :
    (1) There is no power loss as you would expect with a resistor sense method.
    (2) You can adjust the value of CTA/CTB sensed signal with the transformer turns ratio.
You can also do this with resistor sensing but you will need a high speed OPAMP.
    (3) You can use the transformer isolation to reduce the effects of common mode noise
Resistive sensing makes it difficult to isolate the high current ground from the low signal ground.

Some customers prefer to use resistive sensing and we do have an application note that details how to achieve this.
Please refer to TIDA-01390 for details.

    Regards
