BQ24295EVM-549: BQ24295EVM-549

Part Number: BQ24295EVM-549
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24295

Hi

I have been using the BQ24295 development tool for my project but i am trying to make certain changes to incorporate the results I am want to achieve

1. I want to two outputs at the PMID pin is it possible posible to connect 2 outputs in parallel to the same pin.

2. I want to 2 charge sources integrated at the VBUS pin to like a normal charge port from USB 3.0 and another from a alternative source like a solar is that possible and What is the best way to do so?

Thank you

Regards,

Akshay

  • Hey Akshay,

What type of outputs are you trying to connect to PMID? Is this for boost functionality (OTG mode), or even in regular charging mode?

If so, it is possible, but consider the current you will be drawing from this rail, and how that will affect the minimum input voltage of the charger.

The other thing to consider is the ILIM or IINDPM setting you select. The charger measures input current through the Q1 FET, meaning that if enough current is being pulled from VBUS through Q1 and out of PMID, you could see the charger trip IINDPM and ramp back on the charging current. Again, it may not be a problem if you have an expected input current limit you do not want to surpass, but understand it will come at that price.

In reference to having 2 charging sources, you can use some kind of a diode OR'ing circuit. Something like the LM5050 is something we typically recommend to do this.

However, I am not sure how a solar panel source will be different in functionality with this diode OR-ing circuit.
