EM1402EVM: Isolated 12V Power Supply For Active Balancing

Part Number: EM1402EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76PL455A

Hello,

I am considering to buy EM1402EVM. The point I am confused about is external 12V Power supply that is used for charging/discharging a cell for active balancing.

My application is  on light electrical vehicles and this power supply must be connected to a battery pack. But EM1401EVM uses no power supply for balancing, it directly charges from module or discharges into it.

I don't want to make a wrong thing by buying EM1402EVM. Can I directly connect a isolated power supply to the battery module wit EM1401?

  • Hi Egemen,

Both the EM1401 and EM1402 boards make use of the emb1499/emb1428 chipset. This chipset is flexible enough to do either, but the EM1402 has an updated monitor/secondary protector (the bq76PL455A)

Are you wanting to use the isolated 12V in your vehicle, or balance to the module?

The EM1401 is set up to balance back to its own module, as you mentioned. off of the top of my head, I think it would be challenging to set it up to balance to an external battery.

If you can provide further detail for what you are looking for, i think i can point you in the right direction.
