BQ25895: Can BQ25895 support Qualcomm Quick Charge

Part Number: BQ25895
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25890H, BQ25898D, BQ25890

Hi TI Expert,

I have customer that is doing in car usb charger.

Currently they plan to implement quick charge function in their product.

But they found out that only Qualcom  charger able to interface with Qualcom chipset at mobile side.

I came across BQ25895 that has MaxCharge feature.

May i know can TI's quick charge battery charging ic able to support / interface with Qualcomm at mobile phone side?

If not, is there any suggestion or part recommendation?

Thanks,

Br,

  • I recommend changing to either bq25890H or bq25898D. Both of these charger's with D+/D- allow the host to control the D+/D- voltage level. The user can then write software to interface with most HVDCP adapter protocols as explained here www.ti.com/.../slua786.
  • Hi Jeff,

My customer is designing the charger side.

Just to make clear, so by using the bq25890H or bq25890D, the charger ic is able to interface with the Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU or etc at mobile side?

Is the handshake able to establish between TI charger and Qualcomm CPU? or it is just a normal I2C interface to allow control the bq25890 through D+/D-?
Is this configuration TI Charger + Qualcomm CPU certified for QC3.0?

    Thanks,

Neither IC is certified to work with Qualcomm CPU for QC3.0.  However, these ICs' D+/D- feature is compatible with USB BC1.2. With user developed software to control these chargers' D+/D- voltage levels, the software can also emulate a compatible handshake with various protocols.
